Bernie Mac was considered one of the most entertaining comedian’s in the business and on the sad occasion of his passing, Jonathan Mannion reflects on a photo shoot they collaborated on.    ”It was in 2003 when Bernie Mac and I worked together. We were shooting for Essence Magazine in a Park Avenue penthouse suite in NYC and as you can imagine there were a lot of jokes flying back and forth that day, but one that sticks to mind was when Mac said, ‘Hey J, do you know what we used to call cool ass white boys like you in Chicago when we were growing up?’ I replied ‘No but I’d like to know, especially if it applies to me, I’m curious…’ He said after a brief pause… ‘WHITE BWWWAAAHHYYYY’ ….We both fell out laughing. Here’s the shot (above) of that moment.”

”George Clooney said it well, ‘The world certainly got a little less funny.’ It was an amazing gift to be able to photograph one of the funniest men on the planet. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

I still can’t believe he’s dead. You are lucky to be one of the few photographers to capture his soul and personality on film.
Good job J, and may he rest in peace.
One.
